Bargain bin delights - Gippsland daiy blueberry organic yogurt

It's time for another bargain bin delight. You know the story; bargains, fun, stinginess. Let's start! Walking through Coles on a search for rhubarb, a yellow ticket caught my eye. Although not in the bargain bin, this yogurt was reduced and ready to exit Coles as its use by date was fast approaching. I purchased the 200g tub of Gippsland Dairy blueberry organic yoghurt for the bargain price of $0.99 and gave up with the rhubarb hunt.

The ingredient panel, looks ok. Nothing too scary there. I just do not understand why yoghurt requires sugar and why a flavoured yogurt containing 50% blueberry has 'natural flavours' added to it. Do the blueberries not have enough flavour?

I was shocked when I opened the tub; there was real fruit inside! I was not expecting that! I have only ever seen mushed up fruit in yoghurt, not full fruit. The blueberries were smaller than the fresh ones I see at the markets. I am not sure why this was so. There are three main parts to the yoghurt; yoghurt, blueberry juice and blueberries.

The yoghurt is really thick! I was expecting this to be good. Unfortunately I was disappointed. I didn't want to be disappointed! For me, the yoghurt did not taste like blueberry. I knew there was some sort of fruit in there but I could not decipher what it was. If I was blindfolded, I would not have had a clue what flavour yoghurt I was eating. Although there is added sugar in the yoghurt it is not very sweet at all. I found it quite bland.

Conclusion: So, no points for the blueberry yoghurt from me. I can however recommend the Gippsland Dairy natural yoghurt. I eat it when I am in Sydney and have no access to my home made yoghurt. It is not too badly priced, is packed in a re-usable tub and tastes good too:)

The expressions above are my opinions/experiences of the above product/s which were sourced from a supermarket, at the time of consumption.

  4. Oh damn, what a shame that it didn't taste like blueberry-especially when it had flavour added to it (why can't they just use the real stuff?).
