House/kitty sitting on a Sunday afternoon/evening

Last weekend my friend Alan and I had the pleasure of playing the role of house and cat sitters for my auntie. Delia, the very talkative cat pictured above, was our host for the weekend. You've met people who never stop talking? Well, this cat is like that. Meow meow meow. I found that brushing her seems to keep her content:) On Sunday afternoon we sat oustide and played 'tea party' (well, I played 'tea party') and then cooked a tasty tea.

Thanh Thanh, Adelaide

Once again I was at work on a Saturday, reading, flipping pages, being in a state of confusion and attempting to finish my project. Lunch is always the highlight of my day, even though most of my lunches are rather boring; tuna in water... tuna in water and/or microwaved vegetables... Vegetables were never meant to be microwaved! This particular Saturday I did not bring a substantial meal with me and therefore decided to meet with Mr L for some pho. But where?!

The Ultimate Apple Cake Mission - March: Apple yeast cake

My grandma makes a lovely apple cake, in which the apples have been cooked with a few cloves. This gives them a nice wintery flavour. The only downside of the cake, is that she 'cheats' with the base by using a packet cake mix. Though, I must say for a cake made using a packet cake mix, it is very good. The taste had me convinced she spent hours making a dough for the base! Yep, this cake contains grains and much for my diet.

Banana pikelets (grain and sugar free)

When I lived in Germany I enjoyed pancakes quite regularly. I would invite people over to my little apartment just to eat pancakes! (I would also invite people from the internet over to cut my hair in exchange for lessons on how to bake ANZAC biscuits). We'd have sweet pancakes with jam, Nutella and honey as well as savoury pancakes with butter, pesto and sliced meats on top. For this month's 'layer by layer' themed Blog Hop, I decided to revisit the legendary pancake, but a smaller, healthier grain and sugar free version.

Bargain bin delights: mango yoghurt from the Fleurieu Yoghurt Company

It's time for another bargain bin delight. You know the story; bargains, fun, stinginess. Let's start! This week (ok, some weeks ago and this post has just been sitting around doing nothing) in the bargain bin at Foodland, I found a 250g container of mango yoghurt from the Fleurieu Yoghurt Company. 'Fresh from the farmer to the consumer'...if it does not end up in the bargain bin, that is.

Wilson's Organics, Adelaide

Friday night after work, there is of course one thing to do in Adelaide, according to me: Go home. No, wait, there are two things: visit the Central Market and then go home. Yes. This particular Friday evening I met with Miss J after having my fringe cut at one of those small Asian hairdressers you find near the market. No booking required! Miss J and I usually go to the T Bar for a drink, but we decided to visit Wilson's Organics, just across the road, for a hot chocolate.

Tomato egg

What do you have for breakfast? Cereal? Sugar? A fry up? Yoghurt? Nothing? My latest breakfast craze revolves around fried tomatoes. Oh they are so yummy! Each day is a new opportunity to try another fried tomato combination. Plus, with my new-ish Tefal Master Chef series fry pan which I bought for only $30 (usually $80), each day is a non stick experience. And by non stick, I mean NON STICK! Tomatoes and non stickness, what else do you need?

Bliss Organic Garden Cafe

The Bliss Organic Garden Cafe, a popular place for purchasing vegan food and drinks in Adelaide. It never occurred to me to visit this cafe. Afterall, I like meat, eggs, cheese, butter and all things animal-ey. Although I never called myself a 'vegan', there was a time in my life where I did not consume animal products as I was scared of becoming fat and therefore ate no meat (I now eat meat and it does not make you fat), had a fear of consuming milk (pregnant cow juice) and thought eggs were too weird (there is supposed to be a chicken inside...).

Carrot apple cake (grain and processed sugar free)

After my paleo muffins (failure) and primal pumpkin pie (failure), I vowed to never make a 'healthy' dessert again. Though today, two weeks into my grain and sugar free diet, I decided that there MUST be a healthy dessert recipe out there. So, after some searching around the Internet I made the grain free and processed sugar free cake above. It was not a failure. Surprise surprise. There is hope in my world of grain and sugar free baking after all.

Maulwurf cupcakes

When my family hosted a German exchange student some years ago, she brought with her some yummy German treats. One treat was a Dr Oetker Maulwurfkuchen, a German packet cake. We made it and immediately found out that German packet cakes are far superior to Australian packet cakes. Maulwurfkuchen translates to 'mole cake'. The reason for the name, is that the cake looks like the little 'hills' you find in paddocks where moles have been digging around. PS - Yes, I am still not eating grains...but I think these are nice and want to share them with you - I made them before I went on the 'grain strike':) We had cakes at work today and I did not eat any. Yay!
