Last minute business cards

This weekend will be a big weekend of fun, food and blogging. I will be attending the third Eat Drink Blog conference which is being held in Adelaide on November 3 and 4. Seventy nine other excited food bloggers will join me and we will taste what Adelaide has to offer as well as learning new and wonderful things about our shared hobby. Mel from The Cook's Notebook has compiled a list of five tips for the conference. One of them was business cards.

Garlic and sage lamb rack with balsamic tomatoes

I impressed myself on Saturday night; I cooked the above rack of lamb. Alone. By myself. Without assistance. Independently. What an achievement for someone (that is, me) who back in June was only cooking fried eggs. Yes, because fried egg is one step above and required more skill than a boiled egg.

Croissant d'Or, Potts Point, NSW

In Sydney this week (for those of you not aware, I am moving to Sydney in mid November) I achieved my goals of: acquiring a New South Wales (NSW) drivers licence, signing myself up for my own private health insurance policy, updating my bank details and finding a sweet little cosy patisserie. It was very interesting to note that I was forced to undertake a vision test when acquiring my NSW drivers licence. In South Australia, the motor authority must not place importance on vision and therefore no vision test is undertaken! My optometrist tells me I do not need glasses to drive, but I wear them anyway. You know, safety first and all of that.

Milk Mouse and Caramel chocolates + Announcement

A little announcement first and then we'll get into the chocolates. The announcement is that I will be moving to Sydney in mid November. I have found myself a Sydney based accounting position with a friendly firm. And...the office has a great view of the bridge and the water:)  Beats my office view in Adelaide; I look onto the smokers' area of the neighbouring building.

Helm Wines, Murrumbateman

This is Helm Wines, located in Murrumbateman, 30km north of Canberra. On the October long weekend I was in the area and popped in for a squiz and a sip, accompanied with two wine buffs. Oh...and a game of frisbee.... I was not expecting a game of frisbee at a winery!

Chicken cauliflower and silverbeet curry

I have issues with herbs, spices and seasoning. Ok, also known as 'flavour'. They all scare me! I am scared I will put too much of something into a dish and having a horrible result...like my Jamie Oliver rosemary overdose pea and ham soup....Yuck. I decided I would put my foot down and learn to make flavoursome food! No more bland stuff. I started with a curry which called for kafir lime leaves, curry leaves and lemon grass. I had no idea what these were.

Dieci e Mezzo, Canberra

You have not found yourself in a shark's mouth. Nor have you been abducted by aliens. Believe it or not, you are in the foyer of Dieci e Messo, a contemporary Italian restaurant located in the foyer of a new office building in Canberra's centre. After a two hour (delayed) flight from Adelaide to Sydney, followed by a three hour drive from Sydney to Canberra, I was in the mood for food!

Bacon wrapped cream cheese prunes

Do you ever have moments when you remember random food moments from your past? Last week a memory popped back into my strange wonderful little mind. It was Summer night in 2009 and I was sitting in front of a cafe in Mannheim, Germany eating bacon wrapped prunes.

Mount Majura Vineyard, Majura, ACT

On my recent food and wine trip to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), I had the pleasure of visiting Mount Majura Vineyard. Planted in 1988, it was the first vineyard in the ACT. It is not far from Canberra and is situated on the eastern slopes of the picturesque, volcanic soiled Mount Majura. This James Halliday five star rated vineyard is definitely worth a row on your to do list.

The Essential Ingredient, Kingston, ACT

What a pretty shop! What makes this shop even more attractive is that it stores a wide range of quality cookware, food products and cooking books. Plus, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable individuals. This is the Essential Ingredient in Kingston, ACT, which stands across from a lovely green town square.

Gluten free and sugar free orange cake

A short and sweet post today because 1 - I am still writing up posts about my food and wine adventure to Canberra and surrounds on the weekend and 2 - I want to share a great grain free cake recipe with you all! The very tidy cake you see above is a very slight variation of the blood orange cake recipe on  Le Delicieux. As soon as I saw it on Jennifer's blog, I knew I had to give it a test run, using my work-mates as guinea pigs:)
