Sydney Boxing Day sales

My favourite thing about Christmas is buying tangible items at discounted prices at the post Christmas sales. This year, Alan and I headed out to Paramatta Westfield early on boxing day. IT WAS CLOSED! To go back home or to the city? We chose the crazy option of driving to the city where were were greeted by the rest of Sydney, all in the search of a bargain. So many people! AHHHHHHH!

Lerida Estate, Lake George, NSW

I say it is time for another James Haliday Wine Companion five star winery post. This time, it is Lerida Estate near Lake George, just 55km from Canberra. On a sunny Spring day I tasted some great wines and also some lovely food. Well, for me, I just tasted wines and ate dessert (dessert is food) but my wine buff buddies ate some savoury food.

OMG Creme Caramel

It's time for another bargain bin delight. You know the story; bargains, fun, stinginess. Let's start! Believe it or not, this bargain bin delight product, OMG! Creme Caramel was in fact a gift to me. No, it was not my birthday, I had not been promoted at work and I was not even recovering in hospital. I felt so happy to receive a gift for no clear reason. How kind! Oh and it was only PART of a gift. There was more!

Adam Liaw's mango pudding

Another recipe in the search of the ultimate mango pudding. This time, the recipe is from Masterchef winner, Adam Liaw's book, Two Asian Kitchens. When I read recipe books, I simply look at the photos. The photo of Adam's mango pudding had my taste buds watering, so I made it. As simple as that. Oh and I am also on the hunt for the ultimate mango pudding!

Zilver, Haymarket

After my Cabramatta visit, I vowed never to do yum cha again. I usually keep my promises, but not when they are yum cha related. I found myself at Zilver, in Haymarket the other week with Miss M who I worked with in Adelaide and her Sydney based friend, Miss S. Interesting to note, we are all in the wonderful profession of.....ACCOUNTING! This is the story of three accountants at yum cha. They did talk about accounting but also discussed a number of non accounting related topics.

Mango sago pudding

Remember I was trying to find the ultimate apple cake? The mission was sort of buried once I committed to a life of living grain and therefore, pain free. Oh well. Since a week or so ago I have been on another mission. I am going to find the ultimate mango pudding!

Wagaya, Haymarket, NSW

After my first week of work here in Sydney, it was off to Wagaya on Friday evening. The plan was to eat at Wagaya and then see the new James Bond movie afterwards. As I like food greatly and do not really know what or who James Bond is, I decided to eat and skip the movie.

Sydney food blogger Christmas picnic, 2012

Who doesn't like Christmas? *Raises hand* That is right, I am the only one! Ha! You could say I am a bit of a Christmas grinch. There are many aspects of Christmas that I do not like: marketing exercises by large corporations, carols by candle light, the expectation to purchase, the purchasing of useless gifts that only add to landfill, the wastage of food, that Coles Christmas song that seems to have replaced the Coles 'Down Down' song, magazine articles on how to have a 'perfect' Christmas etc etc. Things about Christmas that I like are few and include: nutmeg and cinnamon, Christmas biscuits, Gluehwein, real Christmas trees, Christmas parties and food blogger Christmas picnics.
